I Heart: Mile IQ App

Hi everyone,
This I Heart post is mainly for the freelancers out there. I just wanted to share about this app that I recently discovered that has been helping me in keeping track of my business mileage. I've seen the ads on You Tube, but I didn't realize that it would have been so useful for a single humble contractor like myself.

Before the app, I've calculated mileage the old fashioned way, I would buy my mileage logs in the office supply stores. More than not, I would forget to write down the mileage for short trips and only write them down for my longer trips. I think this was one of the biggest mistakes that I used to make.

Since I've started to travel to different cities for my work, I've been more mindful of my mileage logging. It didn't make it any easier to calculate these things, so I was more open to trying various apps. Out of the three that I've downloaded this is the one that has made the cut for these three reasons.

1. No more calculation: This was the major perk for me. I'm not the biggest fan of math. This app also brags that it makes an IRS friendly report of all the miles logged, which is a win for me! I also found myself doubting myself when it came down to travel, often doubting that I did drive that far with my commute. With the GPS attached to this app, there is no second guessing. The best part about it was finding out all the little drives were accumulating to about an extra $25/week I was missing out on, this has all been really adding up!

2. It's all automatic: When your doing and thinking about so much for your little business, it's so easy to forget to calculate your mileage when your minds going everywhere! I hate to admit it, but I love this app because it does all the thinking for me. It reminds me every couple of days to classify my drives as business or personal. I love that about this app.

3. It's free: Well... technically, If you only see yourself logging in 40 drives a month than it is. Otherwise, unlimited is around $60/year. Good thing about this is you can consider this a business expense and write that off as well. I've barely hit my half way mark in drives and I'm well into the month. But I would definitely purchase this app if/when I find myself expanding and doing more traveling.

Give the app a try! Download it, and the way it works is so easy to learn. I've saved a little under $100 this month alone. I also feel more put together and aware of my expenses for my business, which in turn allows me to look at the areas to make myself more efficient. I hope that this advice helps some of you freelancers out there!

OOTD: Business Redux

Hi everyone,
I hope that you're having a wonderful weekend. As we creep into the second month of this year I'm wondering if things will ever slow down. I had just finished taking care of some very important business for my non-profit today and I can't wait to share it with you. One of the great thing at about owning your own business is wearing anything that you see fit. We have a joke whenever anyone asks what the dress code is we tell them "Fabulous!"; this was one of those times...

This OOTD has many new things in it, things that I need to explain that have crept into my little treasure trove. Mainly my decision to start experimenting with hair extensions as I cringe at the idea of a ugly stage, another being the beautiful Lychee Bag that I got from my Aunt's company. This sweater, pencil skirt, and laptop bag business look is the least bit boring. I had fun sporting this jewel toned number through Little Tokyo today.

Sweater: Lane Bryant, Printed Tank: Lane Bryant, Stretch Pencil Skirt: Style Inc.,
Moccasins: Rite Aid, Laptop Bag: Kilus Foundation (custom)

Do you have a favorite outfit for work?

Crossing Fingers: Nov/Dec

November was one of those wild child months for me. Considering that October went like clockwork I assumed that November would not steer so far from the course. Wow, was I wrong! November stepped up to bat with a ton of new opportunity and responsibilities that I had no ideas would be there. I'm not necessarily upset about it, rather I welcome it to be what it is.

If you're not familiar with Crossing Fingers, I pick three goals for the month and I focus on them.

November Results:
1.NaNoWriMo: This challenge started out great and then other things ran in the path of it. I'm driven nuts that I have yet another year without a good decent hunk of novel. I'd be lying if I didn't say that I was frustrated about this, but half way through this month I had to make a decision between my opportunity and my novel. Painfully I couldn't have both so I gently placed my sweet novel to the side. *sigh* I'm also learning that November just isn't a good month for novel writing for me, am I the only one that feels like this?

2. Meditate Daily: After my first meditation class, I started to read Diana Rossen's book: Meditations with Tea. If one thing I was able to follow through with this month I was so grateful it was this! I've started to feel more grounded and solid this past month sorting out what exactly has been going on inside me and getting to the bottom of things. I'm not finished with the book since it's one of those you don't want to rush, but I can't wait to share with you my discoveries from reading it!

3. Spend less: This challenge was a 50/50 turn out. Yes I did end up spending more money that I'd wish, but since I cut out the urge to spend it all at once I got to do everything I wanted and then some. The highlight of this challenge was not spending lavishly on my mini holiday. Without forcing myself to get souvineers and shop I was able to focus on savoring and enjoying what I had before me. I was also able to get my hand dirty again getting creative in the kitchen and in my art again. Seems like all this time inspiration was right under my nose and I was choking it with luxuries.

December Challenge:
1. Write a 2 Year Business Plan: This is probably going to be the thing that will be taking up most of my month this December. I won't reveal the exact details about the business plan until I'm done with it. But I'll go as far to say that I'm excited with any results that will come out of this plan that I create.

2. Read: Ah yes, so looking forward to finishing up my Goodreads year challenge. I feel so guilty when I want to dive into a book in the month of November because of NaNoWriMo and I feel like I should be writing. So many books I've put on hold that I would love to finish and share with you. I'm looking forward to curling up to a book every evening in this colder weather.

3. Create: After enough practice meditating, I'm ready to get my creative on! Writing, Drawing, Painting, I want all of that good stuff again. How much of this I'll be able to do with the Business Plan I'm not sure, but I sure want to try and make sure I make time for it.

There it is, another month of challenges...
