A Guardian's Abode

Today is the last day to make preparations for the play! As the cast are filing in their bios and meeting up for last minute line runs, we all anticipated this package.

Notice how it's under Our main character's name? We did this for a reason. It's a bit of dark humor really...

You see we always seem to struggle with this one prop. We use guns, candles, fake cigarettes; but this particular prop is one that is hard to make convincing. We realized we had to go for the real thing.

Lucky for us, Yuki, our lead actress is a former mortician (yep, you read that correctly). So with her help and a 'graduation gift' later we got this beautiful new urn! In fact, the actress playing the character that these 'ashes' are supposed to be contained in picked it out in a catalogue on our last rehearsal this past Sunday. My only request as a Director was that we pick a child size one  so it's easier to maneuver with on stage.

I've been relishing in my gothic tones lately, but I think that this really seems to top my cake. At first I was a bit jittery about it, but after seeing the beauty of the urn, I much enjoy it.

Can't wait for the play tomorrow! I'm looking forward to making history. Especially after this little fun fact.

Project Italy: the Polyvore Makeover

I'm a little excited about the play if you haven't noticed. So much that I'm considering wearing some of my goth clothing to set the mood even more. Nothing like a dark mystery to ring in the Fall.

Like many women of the internet, I find Polyvore a rather soothing outlet when I just need something simple to get my creative juices flowing. Here's my little collage to pay homage to the beautiful story that has followed me a decade through.

I also want to mention that we are welcoming cosplay at the event. So Lolita's, Steampunker's and Goth's, please come as you are and enjoy the show!

I'm off to rehearsal now! Time to let my creative juices lose! Eeek!  <3

Project Italy Dramatic Reading

Can you imagine it? After quite sometime my story will be taking flight once more! There is something sacred and magical about theatre to me, and this production has left me breathless. Coming 'home' seems to be a big theme for me as of lately, and nothing seems to drive that idea home than our weekly rehearsals.

I love that this cast is a mix of experienced and new actors, and better yet, the support everyone gives. There's a team willingness and effort that really drives the heart of this cast. It makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside seeing something that I had wrote with my husband give back. When I direct and I see the difference in the way the story feels, I wonder why the hell did I ever stop doing this!?

I'm also blessed with a fantastic set of Producers too. Pete and Danny have been simply amazing driving this production forward. I can finally see the vision come alive of giving the nerd/geek community quality productions to feed the imagination. The harmony of all the brands under Azure Lorica (Ninjacon, Driftplume, Triskele Press) is working wonderfully.

If your in the Los Angeles area (Long Beach) that Friday night please come by and enjoy the show! I love hearing from the few that follow this blog when I see you at cons and meetups. I promise you the show will be amazing. (Knock on wood. You can't be too safe with theatre lol) Our site also has some video recordings and updates of the production overall, you can follow that here:

Grant Writing and Sushi

Today marks a big day for Eugene and me. As of early this afternoon we completed our first grant for our theatre non-profit. I didn't want the chance of documenting this day slip past me, so here I am sharing it with all the lovely people of blog land. I wish I could say that I had much to do with this grant, but really it was mostly Eugene's hard work and late night hours. I was busy doing my end of business and work that he was left to fend with this by himself.  It's a miracle that we finished a bit earlier than the deadline, and it just gave us enough time to find a few more to apply to from now into the beginning of the upcoming year.

We are super proud of our loving theatre non-profit that has run so far strictly by donations and volunteers alone. Each year that this company grows I'm just blown away at the amazing incredible things that we've done. On top of Directing/ Producing/ Sponsoring/ Guest Speaking/ ____ (fill in blank), we had to become grant writers ourselves. Something that I will be involved more with the next one.

In the past three years we have gone through four grant writers; all of which had left us for good or bad reasons (That story alone would make quite the short comical play). A thrown table and Producer's frown later, we decided we wanted to take the challenge ourselves. Let me tell you, grant writing is another type of animal that any other writing task. I will say however, representing a cause you truly feel passionate about and putting it to the test is an experience second to none.

To celebrate we went out for a quiet day at our favorite sushi bar. Then we brought home a bottle of bubbly and finished it off with a double chocolate scone. My romance runs dangerously close to business, and I wouldn't have it any other way!

Being here compared to yesterday, has a lifting sensation to it. Thank you for sharing it with us!
