The Nitty Gritty of Being a Novelist

Hi everyone,
I thought I would take time to let all of you know what I've been up to these days. If you haven't guessed from the title I've been finally getting myself back into novel writing. This has been a passion of mine since I was in my teens, but as life would have it, I've pushed it aside. Life happens and sometimes it gets the best of you, for me these past five years after graduating college have been a whirlwind. Getting married after being in a 10 year long relationship took center as well as building up my career and non-profit. Now that things are settling down a little bit, I've started to return to things that I've always wanted to complete. First thing on that list was telling my stories to the world. I've never seemed to shake that desire from me and I've let it consume a good amount of my life these days.

I was inspired to write this post because wanting to be a novelist and actually making it a part of your daily life are two completely different things. I also didn't see very many articles or blogs written on the web that weren't sugar coated or vague about novel writing. For something that has dramatically changed the way I live my life I can only imagine how difficult it would be to adapt to daily novel writing as a beginner. I hope that this post will help people that are starting out, or feel a sense of defeat from previous attempts of bringing writing into a daily part of their life.

Begin with a declaration that you are writing a novel: Your declaration will mentally prepare you to begin the changes when writing becomes a daily part of your life. It sounds silly, but this was one of the biggest and hardest things to do. All writers are hard on themselves; careful what to share with the world about their passion for story telling. I think that it's safe to say that there is this social stigma that any craft that involves feelings is a waste of time or left to be nothing more than hobby. You need to get yourself out of that mindset before you can emotionally and mentally dedicate yourself to the world you are creating. This declaration doesn't just stop with you. Your friends and family need to know about your conscious effort to begin writing. Whether the news is received with a supportive or negative vibes, you will need to let them know so to feel out the environment that you will be creating in. I started with a few friends and my close family; both were received with mixed reviews. Mostly they will be confused why you need to tell them, they will understand in time why you had to announce your choice to pursuit your dream as your schedule will change.

Second life/ second job: The biggest change I've found in my life is that I feel a constant drain and pull working my full time job and finding the time to write my novel. I've built my proper timing and routines, but the drain does get to me at least once a week. If you are serious about writing, this will become a second job. When I realized that there were days that I just had to write, and I had to dedicate myself to it that day, I found myself pulling that weight and making sure that it was done at any cost. Starting out you will need to stay up a few hours late at night, or even get up earlier to write. In time you will adjust and make the sacrifices necessary to give your writing a fighting chance to be in your life.

Alone time is golden, protect it: One thing I learned really quickly was the desire to want to be alone to write. Pulling yourself away where you can clear your mind for the daily task of 'adulting' and letting your mind wander in it's imaginative state is such a fine line. I've gotten to a point where I know that I need at least one hour of decompress time when I get home from work. On my days off I handle the chores first and give myself an hour of rest before I start to write. You will start to be aware of your time and how to work with the schedule you have. You will also have times when you will have to say no to meet ups with friends and family. This is one of the reasons you will need to tell them you are a novelist. A good friend will understand, and will probably be eager to read what you come up with.

You will need to build a stamina for it: I don't care how experienced or talented you are, rushed work never creates good work. Burn out is also something that is discouraging and has often stopped writers from creating a daily routine in their work. When you start, find your comfortable medium and raise your word count or time writing slowly. One site that has really helped me build my stamina is 750words.com . I don't use them daily, but when I do start writing, I promise myself that I will finish that 750 word count in that day. So far, my comfortable count is 875-1,200 words daily depending on the day and the parts I'm writing. I'm comfortable with the pace that I'm at but after hitting the half way point in my novel, I plan on raising up my word count to 1,000-1,700 words. I also want to add that you should schedule your breaks as well. When I suffer burn out, I promise myself a day or two to stay away from writing. During that time I try to inspire myself with documentaries, going to a museum, or seeing friends. Bottom line - you're in this to see the beginning and the end, this is not an a temporary affair.

Find your routine with trial by fire:
They say that it takes two weeks to build or destroy a habit. I can say from personal experience that this is true. I felt like a zombie my first two weeks. To get myself used to writing I stayed up an extra hour or two every night. I also feel like writing, especially creatively is very exhausting and will wear you down after awhile. The times of the day that you write are also important, I used to think that I was a morning writer but later found that my peak is between late afternoon to evening. To know what works best for you, you will have to try different times and methods. You will also find your strengths and weaknesses take less and more time. I am very strong in narrative and can write it almost anywhere. Dialogue is my weakness, so I have to take a little longer when I write it. Test yourself with trial and error. Be forgiving of failures and mistakes, but be swift to change to things that do work.

I hope that this post inspires you. Keep writing, and your tea close!
Cheers

Crossing Fingers: October 2014

Greetings Everyone,
Happy October to you! In LA, this is when the nights start to get a bit cooler and you realize you're not exactly beading sweat through the day. It's also when a bunch of birds migrate to the area, or they decide to come out here and there. I particularly love the murder of crows that like to come out, along with the sparrows and robins. We also get the Santa Ana Winds, since I live in a canyon they get particularly strong where I live. When they arrive it almost feels like it's a time of cleaning all of the muck that the summer left.

I've been looking forward to the beginning of the month of October, this is for a few reasons. One is Fall is a very magical time here in LA, the weather doesn't change much, but the attitude of the city as a whole does. People seem a bit more contemplative and careful. Second, Halloween is a holiday that I leave to celebrate friendship. Lastly, I can't begin to tell you how grateful I am in surviving until Fall emotionally. Since my wedding in March, things have just seemed to be utterly insane with adjusting to married life. I've taken all of it in, good and bad, with a tougher skin I can proudly say that I've done my best and conquered.

As a tradition on this blog, I'm going to add my Crossing Fingers for this month. I think it reflects a bit of what my goals are overall and the symbolism of constantly changing. Thank you everyone that has come with me on my journey this far. I am blessed to have your support.

Challenges for October 2014:

1. Build a writing routine: Goodness, I'm turning 30 in February (when did that happen!?), I've gotten married, got my degree. All my life goals before I turned 30 have been fulfilled. It's left me a bit lost (another Thoughts post). I realize that as much as the future is mine to take, it's also unknown territory. So I'm turning to my other desires in life: to publish my stories. Stories bring me life, they make me feel complete. You could say that this challenge is more about bringing my stories to life for the rest of the world.

2. Introduce more post topics: I also want to dedicate more time here, as this has become my little corner of the world to share my experiences.I want to add some of my happenings when I did go on blog hiatus, some of  the books I've been reading, and perhaps share more on some topics I can shed some light on from my experiences and my lifestyle. Please let me know if you have any ideas.

3. Go on more walks: I'm a ridiculous hermit when it comes to my weekdays. With an extensive book shelf, working at home, and the not-so-occasional- e shopping and browsing. I'm going to try and just get out more. I'm surrounded by beautiful parks in my area and it's time to make the best of it. I'm also thinking of incorporating this into my meditation routine.

So that's everything! Wish me the best!

Thoughts: Sustenance

Well, the show went wonderful! I really think the cast shined! I look forward to the post with the recap of the event. Everything was beautiful and had a bit of a decadent flare to it.

But what I wasn't expecting is how exhausted I was going to be. I know that Eugene and I are utterly brain dead still ,and it's been feeling a bit like we're scraping out mighty gray masses off of the floor. To be honest, we haven't done much at all since then... It was a weekend filled with bottle neck cider, pizza, and red wine. Lots of discussion and lounging around. Oh... And my lovely trip to Barnes and Noble today, with the return of pumpkin everything!

I thought I would write a 'thoughts' post of what we've concluded these past few days. Bottom line: sustenance is thriving in what you do best. This is a tricky line to balance between life objectively, and life ideally.

Everyone needs to live and that pesky day job seems to get in the way most of the time. Yet when it comes down to it, are we really honestly not fulfilling the point of sustaining ourselves unless we are gaining our wealth of happiness? When we complete our last breath on this world  what have we really made of ourselves? I know for me I want to make sure that I leave my stories behind for people to enjoy the imagination I'm left with. I see little white hairs coming in various parts of my head which is a gentle reminder that I need to live each day.

In the end, the world you make for yourself is what you'll get. Living is not about 'treating' ourselves, but learning to experience the good and the bad... I think that's my cue to start writing...

Autumn Web Cleaning 2014

Hello everyone,
Its been awhile, perhaps too long. Instead of apologizing for my behavior and inserting a bunch of typical feasible excuses, I'd like to explain more over why I've returned to my cyber cozy nook of the internet that I have called teaspectral.

I want to start by saying that I truly enjoyed my time on this site, blogging, and sharing a piece of my life with others. Things got in the way of this part of my life and I regret not keeping it up. There is something very human about personal blogs that I think keeps the online world reminded that in the end, this is about connecting others with a miraculous way. From something as silly as cutting my bangs in the bathroom, to shopping hauls to inspire women of all shapes and walks of life, I am grateful for those that have even paid a visit and witnessed me, a very human soul, do very human things. Thank you from the bottom of my heart visitors and subscribers alike.

I would also like to address that I really did enjoy blogging and I miss it still. Normally one would create a new blog with a new subject (and I've been down that way many a times), but I just can't seem to bring myself to do it. I feel that there is something very brave about facing who you once were, and something braver about connecting them with your current self. This exactly what I intend to do with teaspectral. As much as so much has changed, so much has stayed the same. I must warn you, there are no 'gimmicks' to the return of me writing on the blog. I will continue to try to write what fascinates and inspires me, and yes there will be days where I will be in a rut and I will write sad things. I will say however, in the end you will get to know me very well, both new and the same.

Is it just me or have all the blogs I used to subscribe to simply fallen out of existence? I find that such a pity since I really did enjoy returning to my feed and reading other peoples work. I hope that I find other new bloggers along the way. I've added a picture of the former teaspectral before I revamp and design the site. I consider it beautiful spring cleaning.

Thank you for joining me fellow souls.

Crossing Fingers: Nov/Dec

November was one of those wild child months for me. Considering that October went like clockwork I assumed that November would not steer so far from the course. Wow, was I wrong! November stepped up to bat with a ton of new opportunity and responsibilities that I had no ideas would be there. I'm not necessarily upset about it, rather I welcome it to be what it is.

If you're not familiar with Crossing Fingers, I pick three goals for the month and I focus on them.

November Results:
1.NaNoWriMo: This challenge started out great and then other things ran in the path of it. I'm driven nuts that I have yet another year without a good decent hunk of novel. I'd be lying if I didn't say that I was frustrated about this, but half way through this month I had to make a decision between my opportunity and my novel. Painfully I couldn't have both so I gently placed my sweet novel to the side. *sigh* I'm also learning that November just isn't a good month for novel writing for me, am I the only one that feels like this?

2. Meditate Daily: After my first meditation class, I started to read Diana Rossen's book: Meditations with Tea. If one thing I was able to follow through with this month I was so grateful it was this! I've started to feel more grounded and solid this past month sorting out what exactly has been going on inside me and getting to the bottom of things. I'm not finished with the book since it's one of those you don't want to rush, but I can't wait to share with you my discoveries from reading it!

3. Spend less: This challenge was a 50/50 turn out. Yes I did end up spending more money that I'd wish, but since I cut out the urge to spend it all at once I got to do everything I wanted and then some. The highlight of this challenge was not spending lavishly on my mini holiday. Without forcing myself to get souvineers and shop I was able to focus on savoring and enjoying what I had before me. I was also able to get my hand dirty again getting creative in the kitchen and in my art again. Seems like all this time inspiration was right under my nose and I was choking it with luxuries.

December Challenge:
1. Write a 2 Year Business Plan: This is probably going to be the thing that will be taking up most of my month this December. I won't reveal the exact details about the business plan until I'm done with it. But I'll go as far to say that I'm excited with any results that will come out of this plan that I create.

2. Read: Ah yes, so looking forward to finishing up my Goodreads year challenge. I feel so guilty when I want to dive into a book in the month of November because of NaNoWriMo and I feel like I should be writing. So many books I've put on hold that I would love to finish and share with you. I'm looking forward to curling up to a book every evening in this colder weather.

3. Create: After enough practice meditating, I'm ready to get my creative on! Writing, Drawing, Painting, I want all of that good stuff again. How much of this I'll be able to do with the Business Plan I'm not sure, but I sure want to try and make sure I make time for it.

There it is, another month of challenges...

Grant Writing and Sushi

Today marks a big day for Eugene and me. As of early this afternoon we completed our first grant for our theatre non-profit. I didn't want the chance of documenting this day slip past me, so here I am sharing it with all the lovely people of blog land. I wish I could say that I had much to do with this grant, but really it was mostly Eugene's hard work and late night hours. I was busy doing my end of business and work that he was left to fend with this by himself.  It's a miracle that we finished a bit earlier than the deadline, and it just gave us enough time to find a few more to apply to from now into the beginning of the upcoming year.

We are super proud of our loving theatre non-profit that has run so far strictly by donations and volunteers alone. Each year that this company grows I'm just blown away at the amazing incredible things that we've done. On top of Directing/ Producing/ Sponsoring/ Guest Speaking/ ____ (fill in blank), we had to become grant writers ourselves. Something that I will be involved more with the next one.

In the past three years we have gone through four grant writers; all of which had left us for good or bad reasons (That story alone would make quite the short comical play). A thrown table and Producer's frown later, we decided we wanted to take the challenge ourselves. Let me tell you, grant writing is another type of animal that any other writing task. I will say however, representing a cause you truly feel passionate about and putting it to the test is an experience second to none.

To celebrate we went out for a quiet day at our favorite sushi bar. Then we brought home a bottle of bubbly and finished it off with a double chocolate scone. My romance runs dangerously close to business, and I wouldn't have it any other way!

Being here compared to yesterday, has a lifting sensation to it. Thank you for sharing it with us!

Crossing Fingers: November Update

 Hi everyone,
Hope that everyone's been enjoying their November. As the weather gets cooler it's hard not to contemplate the change that has occurred through the years. The past weeks I've been blogging has been a blessing for me, so if there's one thing that I'm grateful for this year it's that I get to share this bit of my life with all of you. So all that have stumbled across my blog and have stayed, thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Well, without further adieu, here are my updates for my Crossing Fingers November challenges:

1.NaNoWriMo:  I'm not in the best of position, but I'm not giving up. Its been a strange experience this time around. I recently had a conversation with a friend of mine that succeeded in NaNoWriMo. We talked about the Ups and Downs in cramming a novel within a month. We both concluded that it truly depends on the novel and the person. I'm beyond grateful that it kicked me in the pants to pick up my novel writing again. However, I've been enjoying filling out the pages with honest quality words. I'll keep writing and doing my best to catch up by simply spending more time with it. The month is still to early in to tell if I'll finish or not; I usually figure it out about five days before the end. I love building my writing community! Please feel free to friend me under the name healingmercy. I'd love to read your novel and give feedback! Nothing better than community support.

2. Meditate Daily: I was inspired to do this challenge because of my first meditation class. So far I've been doing it daily with or without the book. My daily tea breaks in the morning allow me to clear my mind and get my day started the way that I want it to. So much can be learned in each chapter that I take the points that Rosen mentions to heart and apply them to my daily life. So far its creating an efficient schedule and task managing to balance your life to equalize your energy. This has given me more time to breathe and get more physical activity in my day to calm my nerves. So far, this challenge has been a wonderful success!

3. Spend less: My bills are paid for this month! It wasn't as hard of a challenge as I thought it would be. Keeping this challenge in mind I recently went on a mini holiday to the beach where I spent on hardly anything. It felt absolutely amazing! I can't wait to write all about it in a near future post. I've been taking this challenge and eating at home more often as well. It couldn't have come at a better time as I had some unexpected out of town friends visiting and I had enough of a budget to spend the whole day with them as well as pay the bills. It doesn't get better than that, my life feels so much more well rounded now.

I look forward to seeing how the end of the month plays out. *Crossing Fingers*

Money Talk From A Young Blogger

I wanted to address this subject because I notice a good amount of bloggers are on the fence about the subject, so I took some time to give my opinion on this.

As I'm new to this side of blogging culture, I'm amazed at the incredible honest community that has created this strong presence online. Without saying there is now an amazing way for people to share interest with total strangers creating unique friendships.

I was drawn to personal blogging because of my web browsing history. Almost everything that I was curious or interested in was answered in blog posts all across the web. I was also exposed to a different attitude towards everyday life. Its safe to say that the world online is much friendlier and united than the strange urban world I live in. Bloggers also made me feel like I wasn't crazy for pushing the creative envelope with colored hair, crafting, and a deep desire to make brainstorming apart of my everyday life.

I never take the straight way through things. I work in two industries that are flexible with no guarantees or rules set in stone. They're made for dreamers with guts, and those characteristics are so hard to find these days. I found my comfort in bloggers, in their strong statements that they refuse to be anything less than themselves. I wanted to be one of these inspirational individuals. This is the very reason that I created Tea Spectral.

About a few years ago I started a blog linked to my nonprofits blog. I wanted to share advice in the industry people new to it. Start a community, perhaps create a conversation and learn something as well. Without censoring myself I have to be honest with you: Article blogs are a bitch, and believe me, 95% of them want your page views for money. I left this scene for this very reason. So you can imagine my surprise at how personal blogging is there for many to earn money. I had a general understanding that personal blogs were capable of earning money. Learning about sponsors, giveaways, and other paid methods are still new to me. This being said I wanted to give this some thought to make sure I know where I stand on this at the moment. Here are my current thoughts on it.

I've started to pay for ad space here and there, but really its to gain more readers and build my community. Standing alone on a mountain goes against everything that blogging is about. Nothing breaks the shy bubble than telling the blogging world that you exist. I've considered adding the ad space option on my blog once I gain enough of a following. It's so easy to get starry eyed at the vision of living off of blogging; but I'm not counting on it. To be honest there are plenty of pro experienced bloggers that have been on the web for years and have built their empire and deserve every bit of praise and cent they earn. If I could have any financial goal for my blog it would simply be anything I earn would feed my creative endeavors. Now THAT to me would be living a dream! It's like giving a kid a gift card to a candy store...

My blog is pulsing with young blood and I put my love and care into it. I love watching it grow everyday. I've even started to have dreams about blogging. Its something I look forward to every morning when I wake up. These several weeks I've woken up with a smile on my face, making it worth while. My blog is for me to look back and see the beautiful person I can grow into through my creativity. For the world, I want to be an individual that stands for being unique and enjoying the little things that make me who I am; flaws and all. I have shitty days, great days, and plenty of plain ones. In the end of it all, each day is a day of my life, and I live it everyday doing my best to relish in the beauty of that simple fact. In the end: personal blogging to me is a hobby that celebrates all walks of life.

Thoughts: You're Your Greatest Weapon

It's been awhile since I've done one of these. Really; the Muddy Middles were nipping at my heels for so long. I've learned something this week, and I'd like to share it with you.

This personal blogging is something entirely new to me. To be honest I didn't know what I was getting myself into and then all of a sudden I'm learning all about sponsors and networking that is all unique to the blogging community. It's been one crazy month, and for those of you joining me each day; thank you from the bottom of my heart.

As a Graphic Designer, Brand Identity is in my blood. I usually find myself using it as conversational pieces with all of my friends and I over analyze things far too often. There are so many blogs out there that there is a good amount enough to stereotype blogs. Fashionistas, DIYers, Chefs, the categories go on. I started to wonder, what on earth did I lie under? It started to cast doubts on me, will my vision of sharing my life with others be all in vain? Am I talking to myself? Surely the page views aren't ghostly figures of me clicking away! (Though that would be pretty cool...) It's pretty hard to be a new blogger, you feel alone in your little island of blog land. I was feeling pretty glum.

I was losing grip, and then I went to the Tea Festival. I was so content that entire day, soon to realize it was because I was in my element. There's something beautiful about me that made me want to share my life with the world: I'm different. I am my own Brand Identity, something complex and built over time. What makes me so unique is the choices I make, my interest, and the life I lead.

Isn't that what blogging all about? What made me fall in love with personal blogs was the charm and welcome feeling you get on each post, something that has chiseled away at the hard lines of copy writing and article writing to make a whole new kind of animal. A beast thats powered by the beauty of first hand opinion, and the beauty of sentiment. I am proud to be apart of this powerful movement.

It's easy to become frightened of losing viewers, or having fear of lacking acceptance for a choice of topic. When you do, consider that people were drawn to YOU and what YOU had to say. This goes for any outside social acceptance as well. You are your greatest weapon, because no one else quite does what you do.

I will continue my journey sharing what my life has blessed me with. The blogging community is a bit intimidating, but at this point I don't think any move can be a wrong one. Everything is moving so fast, but I'm starting to enjoy it that way. October was such an amazing month for me and this form of blogging has shaped me once again. Again I want to thank all of you taking a look at my page, this wouldn't have been possible without you.

Crossing Fingers: Nov/Oct

October was absolutely phenomenal! I would say that this past month was a time of self understanding and growing in my young adult life. Taking the challenges for myself did wonders to me that I never thought would be so good for me. I wake up these days with a spring in my step to what tasks are in store for me. There's something beautiful about creating simply for the sake of doing it. When I do work as a profession, the love often disconnects from it. So it was refreshing to spark that interest and my creative juices.

If you're not familiar with Crossing Fingers, I pick three goals for the month and I focus on them.

Results for October 2012

1. 750 Words October Challenge: As you can tell from the letter I got from buster, I DID IT! It started to come natural after the first week, but I must say there were days of complications, I got headaches or was out late. Somehow I found a way to finish, quite a few times I did my entries on my mobile phone. It was worth it! Every last bit of it! Now I'm ready for this month...

2. Do Art Daily: This was not as successful as I had hoped it would be. Where I did create art this month, most of it was done within a week interval. The great news is that I did do art, which I was hoping I would. I opened a renewed passion for painting and my web designing. So the goal at hand did the trick, even though it wasn't done to its fullest.

3. Show Goodreads Up: Ok, this was a love hate task for me. Where I did catch up on my reading, I didn't get ahead of it. There were plenty of books that I wanted to finish this month, but life got in the way. I would call this a half successful goal...

It's time to go forth boldly into the month of November!
November 2012

1.NaNoWriMo: I've been trying to succeed at this challenge for about 4 years now. Always I've been so close. I was either distracted by Finals, Productions, or family issues. Where I can't control the last one; I made sure to clear my season for my theatre company and I'm no longer in school. I want to focus my heart into getting a descent hunk of my novel series done for finally treating and publishing the thing. This will be my biggest goal yet! I've gotten off to a good start today, please feel free to friend me under the name healingmercy.
2. Meditate Daily: After my first meditation class, I feel that it's important for me to continue the feeling of being grounded. This month I'll be reading Diana Rossen's book: Meditations with Tea; and continue with the exercises. A good balance to NaNoWriMo I say.

3. Spend less: What can I say, I love to go out! I love living a full day out in the city which usually pinches my pocket to the bone. I'm used to living check to check, and I think that this needs to give. I saved for my visit to the Tea Festival and absolutely loved it! I want to have many more awesome days like this. I also want to stop whining about paying bills because I have no money from going out so much (guilty as charged!). I have a few more Out & Abouts to finish, but they will soon be growing not so frequent; for this month at least. This is only because I eat out practically everyday and I want to change that. What had me convinced was getting food poisoning TWICE this past week from eating out. Funny thing is I'm a pretty good cook, so this is all about to change. Who knows? I might be sharing some of my scrumptious recipes this month.

There it is, another month of challenges...

Crossing Fingers: October update

Hey everyone! It's about the midway through the month and I thought I should check in and give an update on how I'm doing with this month's Crossing Fingers Challenge.

 1. 750 Words October Challenge: If you can see from the screen cap I'm doing quite well for myself! I'm so happy that I've stayed diligent with this challenge. It gets easier everyday. I can safely say that besides my blog it's the one thing I do that's personal time. Sometimes I do it when I wake up through my phone, but most of the time it's the first thing that I do before I start on my work. Mostly I write about personal things to get my mind settled so I can concentrate through the day, once in awhile I write my blog posts in it. 750 has been allowing me to find the words to put on the screen much quicker. I might have a fighting chance for NaNoWriMo *knocks on wood as swiftly as possible*

2. Do Art Daily: This is the one I've been falling behind on... Most of my time is taken with my job and being out of the house so I'm not exactly capable of doing anything artistic at 11pm. What I do have to account for for this is my bedroom and study mini makeover that I've been cherishing through this month. I've been moving things around, redecorating, and getting rid of things since everything piled up while I was in college. I also started painting again, but it's not progressing as much as I'd like. I need to really step my game up on this challenge.

3. Show Goodreads Up: I think that only the end of the month will tell on this one. As you can see from the screen cap I'm trudging through a few books at the moment. I was crazy to pick a long book for this month; Guenevere, Queen of the Summer Country. I picked it because I stumbled across it in a used book store one weekend. This book NEVER goes on sale and I've been meaning to read it since 2008. The suspense got me in the end... Ugh...

So far not bad, not great either... Still have the rest of the month *Crossing Fingers*

Crossing Fingers: October

Something that I hope to start doing at the beginning of the month are little goals to take me to my goals. What goals? Well... just simple things that make me an overall a better person personally.

College just wiped me out, I was in a cram school where I had no real time to develop myself as a creative person. Since I started school it was this yo yo of inspiration then plateau dry seasons of just working. The greatest asset in all of my jobs IS creativity...

I could sit here beating myself up (that was a few hours ago) or I could just accept it and move on. So I've set myself three simple goals that I hope I can follow through with until the end of the month and longer (Crossing fingers...)

October 2012

1. 750 Words October Challenge: I've survived a couple of these but I haven't been back since February this year. Seriously, anyone wanting to get back into or practice more writing should try this site. It's so therapeutic and as the owner says, "it can be a big mind dump" if you need it to. I'm doing this to make my writing sync naturally with my brain again, no more long pauses...

2. Do Art Daily: Whether a doodle or a craft; something other than writing will be done creatively. Lately my big kick has been redecorating especially as the Fall season upon us makes me want to stay home more. (Pictures to come)

3. Show Goodreads Up: Yes thats right, I'm slightly behind in my reading goal because of the craziness of production season. It urks me that it says I'm behind in my goal. So I want to fix this and stay on track go beyond and be ahead this month. If I dare take the Nanowrimo challenge this year I need to be ahead to keep my reading goal.

The challenge has begun, *Crossing Fingers*
